Who We Are

Margaret Murray

Way back in 1990, fed up working in an accountancy firm after my three-year training contract, I set up my own practice, mainly helping self-employed friends and friends of friends. The client list grew organically through word-of-mouth recommendation, and this has continued over the years.

Outside of the joy of accountancy, I am an enthusiastic linguist: in recent years, learning and speaking Italian has been hugely rewarding, as has visiting Italy. I also spend many happy hours walking with friends and family in beautiful West Cork, where I am lucky enough to have a house and an evening reading by the fireside there, glass in hand, is hard to beat.

Rachel Bainbridge

Following University, I joined KPMG where I qualified as a Chartered Accountant.  After completing my training contract, I worked for the tuition company who teach the professional accountancy exams.  My main area of teaching was personal and small business tax.  After a few years of not working, being a full time Mum and living in Amsterdam, I joined The Counting House where I was able to put my tax knowledge into practise.  I have worked with Margaret since 2004 on a part time basis and am kept challenged by the evolving world of tax with new rules and unexpected situations occurring each year. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my adult children, singing in a local choir and keeping fit.

Christine

A music graduate from Goldsmiths University, Christine stumbled into bookkeeping whilst working in Paris. On her return to the UK she obtained her AAT qualification and has worked for accounting firms in London as a bookkeeper and business manager. She specialises in creative, media and digital media companies and individuals. Now with two young children she continues to work from home.

Aga Majewska (13/01/1975 – 11/05/2019)

We knew Aga for many years, even before she started doing bookkeeping for a good many of our clients. She gradually increased the amount she did until in 2016 she joined our team more formally, working two days a week here in the office, doing VAT Returns, payroll and record-keeping for those clients who needed such services.

Aga was a fantastic colleague: at work she knew everything there was to know about the work she was doing, she was totally reliable and conscientious. She was also a great friend and the most loyal, kind, thoughtful person you could meet.

Aga had cancer for more than four years and so her care for her two lovely children, her work and everything else she did was done against the backdrop of the cyclical assault of chemo, after chemo, after chemo, as well as against the inexorable progression of the disease. I don’t know how she did it and how she managed to have a smile on her face so much of the time. We will always miss her hugely.
